Setup for the Build A Tree Game

Conveniently, Build-A-Tree requires no planning at all. As long as you have the correct materials, you could play this game on a whim at any event.

The only materials needed for this game is SOLO (or any brand) plastic cups. For a Christmas party, it makes things a little more festive if you purchase red and green cups, but it’s not necessary. You’ll need 21 cups per person playing the game.

Playing Build-A-Tree

In most cases, Build-A-Tree is played one versus one, with the rest of the guests watching and cheering, but there’s no reason there can’t be more than two people playing at a time. Each person playing is given 21 cups of the same color. Someone yells “3..2..1..go!” and the players immediately race to set up their cups face-down in the form of a tree. In order to win, the player will have to line up 6 cups in a row, with 5 cups in a row on top of them, 4 in a row on top of them, etc., with one cup sitting at the top. The first person to complete this wins the game. Quick, easy, fun. Your guests will love it.

Note: This game can easily be turned into a drinking game. Simply line the 21 cups up on the table face-up and fill each one up with an ounce or two of your favorite beverage. The player will have to drink all of the beverage from the cups before they are able to turn them upside down and set them up like a tree.
